taking a game too seriously?

This is a question up for debate and opinions....

Players...Socomaholics

So we have our little names for the games and it's daily inhabitants. but my qustion is...Do I/we take it too seriously? Because we make friendships that often times last years, even if only in game? Many times our online friends are met in person through clan re-unions and vacations...I've done this for both. Or because we take pride in our clan, and it's members, who have become like brothers?

Is a car enthusiast not meticulous about every detail of his restoration? Or does an RC Airplane hobbyist simply throw some glue, balsa wood, and celophane together and try to fly? NO!

So why would we not take complete pride in our hobby...Socom. Whether it be in game, in forums, or on our websites. Many of the players who are accused of taking this too seriously are socom hobbyists. We are married with children, Work full time or own businesses, and in most cases have to "schedule" time for socom into their lives. Socom is either an escape, a release, or just a break from the "real" world.

This does not make us nerds, or any other names that those others can come up with. Video games are the #3 industry in the world. 42% of those sales are adults buying the games for themselves, or to share with their children. There are professional gamers (athletes?), that are bringing in more than a million a year after endorsements.

We are a part of a skill set. And there are those many of us who take it seriously...But it is because it is our HOBBY. And if you can't take pride in your hobbies...why even do it?
